BRUSA Sports worked with Oageng Mdlela to secure his recruitment to Cloud County Community College. Part of the KJCAA, Cloud County is in one of the strongest junior college athletics conferences in the USA. Here Oageng quickly established himself as one of the top triple jumpers in the NJCAA.

During his time there, he consistently delivered strong performances. Notably, he recorded jumps over 15 metres and secured multiple wins across major meets. In addition, he placed 4th at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships and 3rd at the NJCAA Region VI Championships.

As a result of his performances, Oageng earned a transfer and significant track and field scholarship to the University of Memphis to compete at NCAA Division I level.

NCAA Success at Memphis

Since joining Memphis, Oageng has taken his performances to another level.

Notably, he:

  • Won the 2025 AAC Outdoor Triple Jump Championship
  • Qualified for the NCAA East Regional
  • Jumped a personal best of 15.50m in the triple jump
  • Consistently placed in top positions across major competitions

In addition, he has continued to improve in both triple jump and long jump, showing his versatility and progression.

Why His Story Matters

Oageng’s journey highlights the power of the junior college pathway. By starting at Cloud County, he gained valuable competition experience and exposure. He then successfully transferred to an NCAA Division I program, where he now competes at an elite level.

Above all, his success shows how BRUSA Sports supports athletes in maximising their potential and progressing through the U.S. system.
