From South Africa to U.S. College Field Hockey

Amy van Rooyen joined BRUSA Sports from St Mary’s DSG Kloof in South Africa. Her goal was to use her field hockey ability to study and compete in the United States.

Working closely with Amy, BRUSA Sports supported her throughout the U.S. university recruitment process. We helped build her recruitment profile and developed a strategy for approaching suitable college programs.

In addition, we connected Amy with U.S. college coaches and supported her throughout those conversations. As a result, Amy secured a field hockey scholarship to attend Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania.

Securing a Field Hockey Scholarship

Finding the right university involves much more than simply contacting as many coaches as possible. Instead, successful recruitment requires the right athletic, academic and financial fit.

BRUSA Sports worked with Amy throughout this process. We helped present her to coaches and identify opportunities that matched her goals.

Ultimately, Amy’s recruitment resulted in a field hockey scholarship and an opportunity to study at Mercyhurst University.

Her story provides another example of a South African athlete successfully making the transition to U.S. college sport.
