BRUSA Sports Announces Partnership with Joburg City FC
BRUSA Sports is excited to announce a new partnership with Joburg City FC, supporting the club’s players and families who are interested in opportunities to study and play college soccer in the USA.
Over the years, BRUSA Sports has worked with a number of Joburg City FC players and alumni, helping them navigate the journey from South African soccer to universities in the United States.
This new partnership builds on that existing relationship and will allow us to work more closely with Joburg City FC to provide players and parents with reliable information about international university opportunities, the US college recruitment process and athletic scholarships.
Supporting Joburg City FC Players with US College Soccer Recruitment
For talented young soccer players in South Africa, the US university system provides an opportunity to continue competing at a high level while earning an internationally recognised degree.
However, understanding the process can be difficult.
There are thousands of universities across the USA competing at different levels, including NCAA, NAIA and junior college programs. Each university has its own academic requirements, soccer standards, costs and scholarship opportunities.
Through the partnership, BRUSA Sports will support Joburg City FC players and families in understanding these different pathways and what they need to do if they would like to pursue university soccer internationally.
This includes information and guidance around:

- NCAA, NAIA and junior college pathways

Building on Our Relationship with Joburg City FC
This partnership is particularly exciting for us because our relationship with Joburg City FC isn’t new.
BRUSA Sports has already had the opportunity to work with players who have come through the club and gone on to pursue their academic and soccer careers in the United States.
We have been incredibly proud to watch these student-athletes take the next step in their journeys, both on and off the field.
By formalising our partnership with Joburg City FC, we hope to make information about these opportunities even more accessible to the next generation of players coming through the club.
Soccer Scholarships in the USA
One of the biggest areas of confusion for families considering the USA is scholarships.
Athletic scholarships are awarded by universities and college coaches, not by BRUSA Sports, and the amount available varies considerably depending on the player, university, division and individual team.
Full scholarships are rare, and families should consider both the sporting opportunity and the overall financial cost when exploring universities.
Our role is to help student-athletes understand the options available to them, identify realistic opportunities and navigate the recruitment, admissions and visa process.
Creating Opportunities Beyond the Pitch
For us, this partnership is about more than soccer.
Studying internationally gives young athletes the opportunity to experience a different country, earn a degree, build independence and create opportunities for their future beyond their playing career.
Joburg City FC has helped develop talented young players in Johannesburg, and we’re excited to work alongside the club to help those interested in taking their soccer and education overseas understand what opportunities may be available to them.
