Shae-Lynn Henderson is a South African field hockey goalkeeper who secured her opportunity to study and compete in the United States through BRUSA Sports.
Working closely with our team, Shae-Lynn navigated the U.S. college recruitment process and earned a scholarship to Meredith College in North Carolina. From initial evaluation to coach communication and scholarship negotiation, we supported her journey from South Africa to the USA.
Her success highlights how South African athletes can leverage their sporting ability to access international education opportunities through college sport in America.
On the Field
As a goalkeeper for Meredith College, Shae-Lynn competed in NCAA women’s field hockey, developing her technical skills, composure under pressure, and leadership on the field.
Transitioning from South African hockey to the American college system, she adapted quickly and became a key part of the programme.

🔬 Undergraduate Research Assistant – AIMSS Study
Shae-Lynn worked on The AIMSS Study, a NIMH-funded project approved by the Meredith College IRB.
Her responsibilities included:

🏘 Community Assistant – Oaks Apartments
Shae-Lynn also served as a Community Assistant, responsible for:

Collaborating with the Apartment Manager on engagement strategy

Ensuring health and safety within the residence community
Her university journey demonstrates how U.S. college sport creates opportunities far beyond the field — combining athletics, academics, leadership and real-world experience.
