Nick Akoto is a UK men’s soccer player who secured a U.S. college soccer scholarship through BRUSA Sports — and went on to sign professionally in both the USA and the UK.

In 2018, with BRUSA Sports’ support, Nick committed to Tennessee Wesleyan University, competing in the NAIA. After two successful seasons, he transferred to Keiser University in Florida to continue his development at collegiate level.

From there, his pathway accelerated — proving that NAIA college soccer can lead directly to the professional game.

During the summers, Nick competed in USL League Two, a high-level summer league designed for college players:

• Ocean City Nor’easters (New Jersey)

• South Georgia Tormenta 2

In 2023, Nick signed professionally with South Georgia Tormenta FC in USL League One, marking his official transition into professional soccer in the USA.

In July 2024, he secured a major move back to the UK, signing a three-year deal with Burton Albion in EFL League One for a record-breaking transfer fee.

There is often an overemphasis on NCAA Division 1, creating a “D1 or nothing” mindset. However:

• College teams do not operate in age groups

• Freshmen often compete against 22–23-year-old players
